In Social Studies we recently learned about micro entrepreneurs in Africa. We made iMovie projects about women overcoming adversity through micro-loans and starting their own businesses. We learned that small businesses can make big impacts in rural communities and villages. This tied in directly to a documentary we viewed about family in Bangladesh who received a micro-loan through the Grameen Bank, and how the family and village prospered from the small loan. Last week we watched most scenes from the movie Hotel Rwanda to help us learn about civil war. The movie is a true story about a guy named Paul Rusessabagina. He was hotel manger in Kigali, Rwanda and his hotel turned into a refugee camp during the Rwandan genocide. We just finished the movie last Thursday, and we are currently studying the eastern part of Africa and the landforms. Before vacation we will also begin Central Africa.
